Car Key Replacement in Brandon, FL

Lost every key in Brandon? In most cases we can still make one, and we do it at the car: blade cut, chip programmed, key tested where it's parked. If the car still starts, bring it to our walk-in shop in South Tampa for a second key or a new fob, 8am to 8pm, Monday through Saturday.

Brandon Car Keys

Two Ways We Make Car Keys for Brandon

Quick answer

Every key gone? We drive out to the car in Brandon and make the new key there, so nothing gets towed. Still holding a key that works? Bring the car to our walk-in shop at 4556 S Manhattan Ave for a spare, a fob, or programming. Either way, start with a call to (813) 832-4777 for a free quote.

No Working Key: We Come to the Car

Our van brings the key machine and the programming tools to a car that can't move, and the work happens beside it. More on lost car key replacement.

A Key That Works: Walk In to the Shop

Spares, replacement fobs, and programming at our counter, 8am to 8pm, Monday through Saturday. Bring the car along: programming happens with it on hand. More on spare car keys.

Where We Meet Your Car in Brandon

When the last key is gone, the car isn't moving, so the job comes to it: a driveway off Lumsden Road, Bloomingdale Avenue, or Providence Road, the mall lots at Westfield Brandon, or a shopping-center space or office lot along Brandon Boulevard (SR-60). Both 33510 and 33511 are part of our Brandon work.

On the phone, tell us exactly where the car is: the address, the store or row it's parked by, and whether it's in a garage. Hillsborough is our home county. Call for a live ETA and a free quote before we roll.

Keys locked in the car rather than lost? Then you need the door opened, not a new key: see car lockout help. For rekeys, lock changes, and everything else we do in town, see our Brandon locksmith page.

Walk-In Shop

Bringing the Car to Our South Tampa Shop

If the car still starts, it can come to us. The Locksmith Shop is a real storefront at 4556 S Manhattan Ave, Tampa, FL 33611, and walk-ins are welcome from 8am to 8pm, Monday through Saturday. We're closed Sunday.

From Brandon, the Selmon Expressway runs west into South Tampa, and I-4 and I-75 both connect to it. Phone ahead at (813) 832-4777 so we can check stock for your car's key or fob; the year, make, and model are all we need for that.

At the counter we cut and program spare car keys, replace and program remotes, fobs, and smart keys, program transponder chip keys, cut laser-cut keys on our high-security key machine, and move a working fob into a new case (see key shell and flip key repair). Anything that gets programmed needs the car there.

We've been a family-owned Tampa locksmith since 2009. Our techs are bonded, insured, and background-checked, and they work in English or Spanish.

No Key to Copy

How a Key Gets Made Without the Original

When there's no original, the new key isn't a copy at all. It's cut to your car's key code. Once you've shown the car is yours, we look that code up with the VIN, or on some cars fit the new key to the locks instead, and our machine cuts the blade, standard or laser-cut.

Then comes the part a hardware store can't do. On most modern cars, the engine stays off until the immobilizer reads a chip it knows, so our programming equipment plugs into the car and registers the new chip, along with the remote buttons or the smart key if yours has them.

Before we pack up, the new key has to lock, unlock, and start the car. If you were down to one key before this, ask about adding a spare while we're there.

Before You Call

What to Have Ready

  • Photo ID, plus one document that ties you to the car: registration, title, or insurance paperwork. We check both before cutting or programming anything.
  • The 17-character VIN. Look on the registration or the insurance card, through the glass at the driver's-side base of the windshield, or on the door-frame label when the driver's door is open.
  • Year, make, model, and how the car starts: a key you turn or a button you push.
  • Every key or fob that belongs to the car, even one that quit. Certain cars wipe any key that's missing during programming, so bring them all.
  • For a job at the car: the Brandon address, and where the car sits in the lot or garage.
  • Papers locked inside the car, a registration in another person's name, or a company vehicle? Tell us on the phone and we'll walk you through what works.
Make & Model

Makes We Work On, and the Honest Exceptions

We cut and program keys for Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Chevrolet, GMC, Hyundai, Kia, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Subaru, Mazda, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, BMW, Volkswagen, and more, mid-2000s models up to the current model year, plus most 2014 and older Mercedes-Benz models. We make motorcycle and e-bike keys too. Find yours on car keys by make, or go straight to Ford, Chevy and GMC, Toyota, Honda, or Nissan.

Some cars take an extra step. Plenty of newer GM models require a factory-authorized step before any key can be programmed, and on most of them we have that access. Newer Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler models often carry an added security layer against key programming, and our programming equipment is set up to handle it (see Jeep and Dodge and Ram). Rare imports we verify first.

Mercedes-Benz, 2015 and newer: those keys are sold and programmed only through Mercedes dealers, and no locksmith shop can make them, ours included. On those cars we can still open a locked door, replace a worn fob case or a dead battery, and cut the emergency blade (see Mercedes keys, 2015 and newer). Should your exact car turn out to need the dealer, you'll hear it on the phone, before a van heads your way.

Price & Quote

What Sets the Price of a Brandon Car Key

We don't post prices, since the right key depends on the car. The number comes down to what kind of key it is (a smart key for a push-button start, a flip key, a remote-head key, or a basic chip key), the blade style (standard or laser-cut), the model and model year, whether any key you have still starts the car, and whether the key for your car is in stock or has to be ordered.

Quotes are free: call (813) 832-4777 with the VIN handy. You'll have the price before any work begins, whether we come to the car in Brandon or you drive it to the shop.

The dealer can make a key too, usually with a service appointment and the car on its lot, which with every key lost can mean arranging a tow. For most makes, we make the key beside the car instead. It's fair to get a quote from both.

Process

How It Works

  1. Step 1

    Call Us First

Call (813) 832-4777. Have the VIN ready, and tell us if any key still starts the car.

  2. Step 2

    Get a Free Quote

You get the price over the phone, plus a straight answer on shop versus on-site.

  3. Step 3

    Shop or Driveway

Show a photo ID and your proof of ownership. The blade gets cut, and the chip gets paired to your car.

  4. Step 4

    Tested Before We Finish

The new key has to lock, unlock, and start the car, and so does any key you kept.

FAQ

Brandon Car Key Questions

I lost my only car key in Brandon. Can you still make a new one?+

In most cases, yes. A car with no key can't be driven to us, so we go to it: your driveway, or a store lot on Brandon Boulevard. After you show the car is yours, we look up its key code by VIN, cut a blade to that code, and pair the key's chip with the car right there. For most makes, nothing gets towed to the dealer.

Should I drive to your shop, or will you come to me in Brandon?+

It comes down to whether the car still starts. If it does, drive it to our walk-in shop at 4556 S Manhattan Ave in South Tampa for a second key, a replacement fob, or programming, 8am to 8pm, Monday through Saturday. The car has to make the trip too, because programming is done with it on hand. If no key starts it, we come to the car in Brandon instead.

What should I have ready before I call?+

A photo ID, something that ties you to the car (registration, title, or insurance paperwork), and the VIN. Bring every key and fob that belongs to the car, because certain cars wipe any key that's missing while a new one is added. Papers locked in the car, or a car registered to someone else or to a business? Say so when you call.

Which car makes do you handle?+

Most of them, from the mid-2000s up to the current model year: Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Chevrolet, GMC, Hyundai, Kia, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Subaru, Mazda, Lexus, BMW, Volkswagen, and more. Plenty of newer GM models require a factory-authorized step before a key can be programmed, and newer Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler models often add a security layer; we're set up for both on most models. Mercedes-Benz models from 2015 forward are dealer-only. If yours is one of the dealer-only cars, we tell you on the call, before a tech heads out.

How is a Brandon car key priced?+

Case by case, which is why there's no price list on the site. Key type, blade, the model and its year, whether any key you have still starts the car, and whether the key has to be ordered in all change the number. Call (813) 832-4777 with the VIN; the quote is free and comes before any work begins.

The buttons on my fob quit. Is it worth fixing?+

Often, yes. A tired battery is the most common culprit, a fob can lose its pairing with the car, and a cracked case usually has healthy electronics inside. Bring the fob and the car to the shop and we'll test it, then swap the battery, re-pair the fob to the car, move the board into a new shell, or program a replacement if it's past saving.

Are you open on Sunday?+

No. We close Sundays; the shop runs 8am to 8pm, Monday through Saturday. If a key goes missing in Brandon after 8pm, call us at 8 the following morning; from Saturday night through Sunday, that means Monday at 8am. Check that the car can safely stay put, and take your valuables with you. Kids or pets shut in a car are a 911 call first.

Do you offer a military discount?+

Yes. Ask about it when you call (813) 832-4777 for your quote.
