Dodge & Ram Keys

Plug-In Fob, Smart Key, or Chip Key?

Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler lean heavily on one key you won't see on most other makes: the plug-in fob, often called a Fobik. If your fob slides into a slot in the dash and turns, that's the one you have. Many newer trucks, SUVs, and cars moved to a push-button smart key that stays in your pocket, and older models use a cut key with a chip in the head. The VIN tells us exactly which your vehicle came with.

Plug-In Fob (Fobik)

The fob goes into the dash and turns like a key. An emergency blade hides inside for the door. We program the fob and cut the blade.

Smart Key

For push-button models. The vehicle senses the key nearby, and the blade inside is cut to your door. See smart key replacement.

Chip Key

A cut blade with a transponder chip in the head. A plain copy may turn but won't start the engine until it's programmed. See transponder key programming.

Ram Trucks & Vans

Ram Work Trucks and ProMaster Vans

A Ram 1500, 2500, or 3500 with no key holds up the whole crew, so we come to the truck at the job site, the yard, or wherever it's parked. Our service vans carry key cutting machines and programming tools, so the new key is cut and programmed where the truck sits, usually in a single visit and with no tow. ProMaster work vans get the same visit. Every key gone? See lost car key replacement.

Running several trucks or vans? Adding a second key to each one now is simpler than replacing the only key later. See fleet and company vehicle keys.

Newer Models

The Security Layer on Newer Dodge and Ram

Many newer Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler vehicles have an added security layer that blocks key programming unless the locksmith has the right access. It's why some shops turn newer models away. We have the equipment to work with it, so for most newer models a new key is still a one-visit job at the shop or where the vehicle is parked.

If your exact vehicle turns out to be a dealer-only job, we tell you on the phone before anyone drives out. Driving a Jeep? It's the same family; see Jeep key replacement.

Before You Call

What to Have Ready for a Dodge or Ram Key

  • Your vehicle's year and model, whether the fob plugs into the dash or it's push-button start, and the VIN from your registration, insurance card, or the base of the windshield on the driver's side.
  • A photo ID plus the registration, title, or insurance documents for the vehicle. For a company truck or van, a document showing you're authorized for the vehicle.
  • Every key and fob you still have, working or not. On some vehicles, programming a new key clears any key that isn't present.
Cost & the Dealer

Cost, and Skipping the Dealer

We don't post Dodge or Ram key prices, because every car is different. The type of key matters most, followed by your model and year and whether you still have a working key. You get a free quote by phone and the price before any work begins.

A dealer can make a key too, typically with a service appointment and the vehicle on site. For most Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler models, we make it without the appointment. Rare or very new models may need the key ordered first, and we tell you on the phone which category yours falls into. Near the shop? Our South Tampa locksmith page covers the neighborhoods around it.

FAQ

Dodge & Ram Key Questions

Can you make a key for my Ram if I lost all of them?+

Yes, for most models. We come to the truck, cut the blade, and program the new key, plug-in fob, or smart key where it's parked, so there's no tow. Call (813) 832-4777 with the year and the VIN, and tell us if the truck is at a job site.

My Dodge has the fob that plugs into the dash. Can you replace it?+

Yes. That's the plug-in fob, often called a Fobik: the whole fob slides into the dash and turns like a key, with an emergency blade inside for the door. We program a replacement to your vehicle and cut the blade, for most models.

Can you program keys for newer Dodge and Ram models?+

Yes. Many newer Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler vehicles add a security layer that blocks key programming without the right access, and we have the equipment to work with it. If your exact vehicle turns out to be a dealer-only job, we tell you on the phone before anyone drives out.

Do you do Chrysler keys, like the Pacifica or 300?+

Yes. Chrysler is in the same family as Dodge, Ram, and Jeep, and its minivans and sedans use the same kinds of keys: plug-in fobs and push-button smart keys on most recent models. Call with the year, model, and VIN.

How much does Dodge or Ram key replacement cost?+

Every car is different, so we don't post prices. What moves the number is the type of key (a chip key, a plug-in fob, or a smart key), your model and year, and whether you're adding a spare or replacing your only key. Call for a free quote, and you'll have the price before any work begins.
