Jeep Key Replacement in Tampa
Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Compass, or Gladiator, we cut and program Jeep keys for most models, along with Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler. Walk in to our South Tampa shop Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm, or we'll come to the Jeep wherever it's parked.
Three Kinds of Jeep Key
Which key your Jeep takes depends on the model, the year, and the trim. Many Jeeps with a key you turn use a chip key, often with the lock and unlock buttons built into the head. Some Jeep models, like many from Dodge, Chrysler, and Ram, use a plug-in fob that goes into the dash. And many newer Wranglers, Grand Cherokees, Compasses, and Gladiators use a push-button smart key. The VIN tells us exactly which one yours came with.
Chip or Remote-Head Key
A cut blade with a transponder chip, often with the buttons in the head. A plain copy may turn but won't start the engine until it's programmed. See transponder key programming.
Plug-In Fob (Fobik)
The whole fob slides into a slot in the dash and turns like a key. An emergency blade hides inside for the door. We program the fob and cut the blade.
Smart Key
For push-button Jeeps. The Jeep senses the key nearby, and the blade inside is cut to your door. See smart key replacement.
Lost Your Jeep Key Somewhere Inconvenient?
Jeeps go places other cars don't, and keys get lost in those places: in the sand at the beach, at a boat ramp, or at the end of a trail. With no key, the Jeep isn't going anywhere, so we come to it. Our service vans carry key cutting machines and programming tools, so the new key is cut and programmed to the Jeep where it sits, with no tow. For what to have ready, see lost car key replacement.
Once you're back on the road, a spare car key is good insurance for a vehicle that spends weekends outdoors. Adding a key while one still works is simpler than replacing the only one after it's gone. If the key is locked inside rather than lost, see car lockout help.
The Rest of the Jeep Family
Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler are one family of brands, and many of their vehicles share key types, including the plug-in fob. Ram pickups, Chargers, Durangos, and Chrysler minivans have their own page: Dodge & Ram key replacement.

What to Have Ready for a Jeep Key
- Your Jeep's year, model, and trim, whether it has push-button start, and the VIN from your registration, insurance card, or the base of the windshield on the driver's side.
- A photo ID plus the registration, title, or insurance documents for the vehicle.
- Every key and fob you still have, working or not, and where the Jeep is parked if it isn't coming to the shop.
Cost, and Skipping the Dealer
We don't post Jeep key prices, because every car is different. The type of key matters most, then your model and year, and whether you still have a working key. You get a free quote by phone and the price before any work begins.
A Jeep dealer can make a key too, typically with a service appointment and the Jeep on site. For most Jeeps, we make it without the appointment, at the shop or where the Jeep is parked. Rare or very new models may need the key ordered first. Many newer Jeeps add a security layer that blocks key programming without the right access, and we have the equipment to work with it. If your exact Jeep turns out to be a dealer-only job, we say so on the phone before anyone drives out. Near the shop? Our South Tampa locksmith page covers the neighborhoods around it.

Call (813) 832-4777Jeep Key Questions
Can you make a key for my Jeep Wrangler?+
Yes. We make Wrangler keys for most model years, whether yours uses a key you turn or a push-button smart key. If the Wrangler is stuck at the beach, a boat ramp, or a trailhead with no key, we come to it. Call (813) 832-4777 with the year and the VIN.
What is a Fobik, and can you replace one?+
Fobik is the common name for the plug-in fob some Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, and Ram models use: the whole fob slides into a slot in the dash and turns like a key, with an emergency blade tucked inside for the door. Yes, we replace and program them, for most models.
Do you make keys for Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler too?+
Yes. Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler are one family of brands, and many of their keys are the same types. A Ram truck, a Charger, or a Grand Caravan is handled the same way as a Jeep; see our Dodge & Ram key page, or call with the year, model, and VIN for a free quote.
I lost my only Jeep key. Do I have to tow it to the dealer?+
Usually not. We come to the Jeep, cut a new key to the locks, and program it where it's parked, in most cases in a single visit. Newer Jeeps add a security layer for programming, and we have the equipment for it. If you have a second key or fob somewhere, find it before we arrive: on some vehicles, programming a new key clears any key that isn't present.
How much does Jeep key replacement cost?+
Every car is different, so we don't post prices. What moves the number is the type of key (a chip key, a remote-head key, a plug-in fob, or a smart key), your model and year, and whether you're adding a spare or replacing your only key. Call for a free quote, and you'll have the price before any work begins.
