Hyundai Key Replacement in Tampa
Broken flip key, lost smart key, or a Hyundai that's down to its last key? We cut and program Hyundai keys for most models, at our South Tampa shop or on-site, Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm.
Flip Key or Smart Key
Most Hyundais use one of two kinds of key. Models with a key you turn commonly use a flip key, where the blade folds into the fob and springs out at the push of a button. Models with push-button start, including many Elantra, Sonata, Tucson, and Santa Fe trims, use a smart key that stays in your pocket. Some older Hyundais use a plain chip key with a separate remote. Which one yours takes depends on the model, the year, and the trim.
Flip Key
Folding blade, transponder chip, and lock and unlock buttons in one fob. The blade is cut, and the chip and the remote are both programmed. Chip basics are on our transponder key programming page.
Smart Key
For push-button models. The car senses the key nearby, and an emergency blade inside is cut to your door lock. See key fob and smart key replacement.
When a Flip Key Breaks
A flip key gets used every time you drive, and the folding blade and its hinge are moving parts. When one fails, the symptom tells you a lot. Buttons dead but the car still starts? The remote's coin cell is worth checking first, because the chip that starts the car doesn't run on that battery. Blade won't lock open, the shell has split, or the car won't start on the key at all? Tell us exactly what's happening when you call, and we'll tell you what it needs before you spend anything.
If part of a broken key is stuck in the ignition or a door lock, don't force it. Broken key extraction is part of our automotive work, and it's easier to get a clean piece out than one that's been pushed further in.

Down to One Key, or None
Down to one: a sparemade now is the simpler job. Drive the Hyundai to 4556 S Manhattan Ave with the key you have; walk-ins are welcome Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm. Bring every key you want to keep using, since on some cars programming a new key erases any key that isn't present.
None left: then it's a car key replacement. Lost all your keys with no spare? In most cases we can still make one. The car can't come to us, so we come to it, and our service vans carry key cutting machines and programming tools, so there's no tow. If the key is locked in the car rather than lost, see car lockout help.
What to Have Ready for a Hyundai Key
- Year, model, and trim, and the VIN from your registration, insurance card, or the base of the windshield on the driver's side.
- A photo ID plus the registration, title, or insurance documents for the car.
- Every key you have for it, including a broken one. The pieces help us see what failed.
Cost, the Dealer, and Kia
We don't post Hyundai key prices, because every car is different. A flip key and a smart key are different parts, and the model, the year, and whether you still have a working key change the job. Call for a free quote and you'll have the price before any work begins.
A Hyundai dealer can make a key too, typically with a service appointment and the car on site. For most Hyundais, we make it without the appointment, usually in a single visit. Rare or very new models may need the key ordered first, and we tell you on the phone which category yours falls into. Driving a Kia? It's Hyundai's sister brand and on our list too; see the Kia section of car keys by make. Near the shop? Our South Tampa locksmith page covers the neighborhoods around it.

Can you replace a Hyundai flip key?+
Yes, for most models. We cut the blade to your locks and ignition and program both the chip and the remote buttons to your Hyundai, so the new flip key locks, unlocks, and starts the car. Call (813) 832-4777 with the year, model, and VIN.
My Hyundai flip key is broken. Do I need a whole new key?+
It depends on what broke. If the buttons quit but the car still starts, the remote battery is worth checking first. If the key is cracked, the blade won't stay open, or the car no longer starts on it, tell us exactly what's happening when you call and we'll tell you what it needs. If a piece of the key is stuck in the ignition, broken key extraction is part of our automotive work.
Can you program a Hyundai smart key for push-button start?+
Yes. We program replacement smart keys for most push-button Hyundais and cut the emergency blade inside to your door lock. If it's your only smart key and it's gone, we come to the car.
Do you also make Kia keys?+
Yes. Kia is Hyundai's sister brand and it's on our list of makes. Many Kia keys are similar to Hyundai's: flip keys on models with a key you turn, smart keys on push-button models. Call with your year, model, and VIN.
How much does Hyundai key replacement cost?+
Every car is different, so we don't post prices. A flip key and a push-button smart key are different parts, and your model and year and whether you still have a working key matter too. Call for a free quote, and you'll have the price before any work begins.
