Infiniti Keys

The Smart Key Most Infinitis Use

Infiniti is Nissan's luxury brand, and most Infinitis on Tampa roads, from the Q50 sedan to the QX60 and QX80 SUVs, use a push-button smart key: the kind Nissan calls the Intelligent Key. You keep it in a pocket or purse, press the button on the door handle to unlock, and press the start button with your foot on the brake. Inside the fob is a slim metal key for the driver's door. Some older Infinitis start with a key you turn instead, with a chip in the head.

Push-Button Smart Key

Unlocks from the handle and starts the car while it stays in your pocket. We program a new one to your Infiniti. See key fob and smart key replacement.

Metal Key Inside

Slides out of the fob for the driver's door. A new smart key gets its metal key cut to match your lock before we hand it over.

Older Chip Key

A blade you turn, with a transponder chip the car must recognize before the engine runs. See transponder key programming.

Dead Fob

Getting Into an Infiniti When the Fob Dies

When the smart key stops working, the car still has a way in. Slide the release on the fob and pull out the metal key. On some Infinitis the door keyhole isn't visible, because it sits under a small cap on the driver's door handle; the owner's manual shows how to remove that cap with the same metal key. Most owner's manuals also describe a fallback for starting the engine when the fob's battery is nearly flat, and it's worth reading before the day you need it.

A new coin battery fixes a lot of tired fobs. If yours still won't unlock or start the car after that, it may need to be paired to the car again, or it may have failed and need replacing. Our page on whether to replace or reprogram a fob walks through the difference, and we'll tell you which yours sounds like when you call.

Used Infinitis

Bought a Used Infiniti With Only One Key?

Infinitis tend to have long second lives, and plenty of used G37s, Q50s, and QX60s change hands with a single smart key. That one key is fine until it isn't. A second key made while the first still works is the simpler job: drive the car to 4556 S Manhattan Ave, or we meet you at it.

Bring every key you have when the new one is programmed, including any the previous owner left in the glovebox. A key that isn't present while the car learns the new one may stop working afterward. And if the only key is already gone, the Infiniti stays put and we do the programming beside it, with no tow. More on lost car key replacement.

Before You Call

What to Have Ready for an Infiniti Key

  • The year and model, plus the VIN if you can reach it: it's printed on the registration and the insurance card, and on the dash, readable through the glass in front of the steering wheel.
  • Your photo ID, along with proof the Infiniti is yours (registration, title, or insurance card). Bought it recently and the paperwork is still catching up? Ask on the phone which documents work.
  • Every smart key or key you have for the Infiniti, including one the car has stopped recognizing.
Cost & the Dealer

What an Infiniti Key Costs, and Where the Dealer Fits

We quote Infiniti keys by phone for free rather than posting prices. What moves the quote is the key (a push-button smart key or an older chip key), the model and year, and whether a working key is still around to start from.

An Infiniti dealer can program a key too, normally with a service appointment and the car on their lot. For most Infiniti models we do it at the shop or where the car sits, no appointment needed, and if a very new model calls for a key that has to be ordered, you hear that on the phone first. Since Infiniti shares its key types with its parent brand, our Nissan key page is useful reading too, and our South Tampa locksmith page covers the neighborhoods near the shop.

Process

How It Works

  1. Step 1

    Share the Year and VIN

Call (813) 832-4777 with the Infiniti's year, model, and VIN, and say whether the key is lost, not responding, or you want a second one.

  2. Step 2

    Free Quote First

We confirm the key your Infiniti uses and give you the price before any programming starts.

  3. Step 3

    Program and Cut

The new smart key is programmed to the car, and its metal key is cut to the driver's door lock.

  4. Step 4

    Try It at the Car

Handle button, start button, and the metal key in the door, checked with every key you hand us.

FAQ

Infiniti Key Questions

I lost my Infiniti smart key. Can you make a new one?+

Yes, for most models. A push-button Infiniti with no smart key nearby won't start, so we go to the car, program a new smart key to it, and cut the metal key inside to fit the door. Keep a photo ID and the registration or title handy for when we arrive.

Is an Infiniti smart key the same as a Nissan Intelligent Key?+

They're close relatives. Infiniti is Nissan's luxury brand, and Intelligent Key is Nissan's name for the push-button smart key that most models of both brands use. The key types line up, but every replacement still has to be programmed to your own Infiniti before it will start it.

I can't find the keyhole on my Infiniti's door. Where is it?+

On some models it's hidden under a small cap on the driver's door handle. Your owner's manual shows how to take the cap off using the metal key from inside the fob. If the cap won't budge or the lock won't turn, call us and we'll get you in.

Do you make keys for older Infinitis like the G37?+

Yes, for most of them. Many G37s already came with a push-button smart key, while some earlier Infinitis start with a key you turn that has a chip in its head. Read us the VIN and we'll confirm which one yours has before anything is scheduled.

How much does an Infiniti key cost?+

Every Infiniti key is quoted, not listed. A push-button smart key and an older chip key are different parts, and the job grows when no working key is left. The quote is free by phone at (813) 832-4777, and the number is settled before we start.
