Toyota Key Replacement in Tampa
From a high-mileage Corolla to a newer RAV4 with push-button start, we cut and program Toyota keys for most models. Walk in to our South Tampa shop Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm, or we'll come to your driveway, job site, or office lot.
Every Generation of Toyota Key
Toyotas have a reputation for staying on the road a long time, so the Toyota in your driveway could use any of three kinds of key. Older models use a chip key: a cut blade with a transponder chip in the plastic head, often with a separate remote on the ring. Many later models with a key you turn moved the lock and unlock buttons into the key head. And many newer Camry, Corolla, RAV4, and Highlander trims use a push-button smart key that stays in your pocket, with a mechanical blade tucked inside for the door.
Chip Key
Blade plus transponder chip. A plain hardware-store copy may turn in the ignition but won't start the car until the chip is programmed. See transponder key programming.
Remote-Head Key
Blade, chip, and buttons in one. The blade is cut, and the chip and the remote are both programmed, so the new key locks, unlocks, and starts.
Smart Key
For push-button Toyotas. The car senses the key nearby; the emergency blade inside is cut to your door. See smart key replacement.
An Older Toyota With a Worn Key
A car that has been on the road for years often has a key to match. A worn blade can start to stick in the ignition or the door, and it's easy not to notice until the day it won't turn. Tell us the key is worn when you call: copying a worn key just copies the wear onto the new blank, so we need to know what we're working from. If a piece of a broken key is stuck in the ignition, broken key extraction is part of our automotive work too.
If that worn key is your only one, it's worth making a spare car keynow. Adding a key while one still works is usually simpler than replacing the only one after it's gone.
Lost Your Only Toyota Smart Key?
With a push-button Toyota and no smart key, the car can't be driven anywhere, so we come to it: your driveway, your office lot, or the job site where the truck is parked. Lost all your keys with no spare? In most cases we can still make one. Our service vans carry key cutting machines and programming tools, so the new key is programmed to the car where it sits, with no tow.
If you have a second smart key somewhere, find it before we arrive. On some cars, programming a new key clears any key that isn't present. For more on replacing a car's only key, see car key replacement, and if the key is locked inside the car rather than lost, see car lockout help.
What to Have Ready for a Toyota Key
- Your Toyota's year and model, whether it has push-button start, and the VIN from your registration, insurance card, or the base of the windshield on the driver's side.
- A photo ID plus the registration, title, or insurance documents for the vehicle.
- Every key and smart key you still have, working or not, and a note on whether the old key is worn.
Cost, the Dealer, and Lexus
We don't post Toyota key prices, because every car is different. The type of key matters most, followed by your model and year and whether you still have a working key. You get a free quote by phone and the price before any work begins.
A Toyota dealer can make a key too, typically with a service appointment and the car on site. For most Toyotas, we make it without the appointment, at the shop or where the car is parked, usually in a single visit. Rare or very new models may need the key ordered first, and we tell you on the phone which category yours falls into. Lexus is on our list of makes too; see the Lexus section of car keys by make. Can you replace a Toyota smart key?+
Yes. We program replacement smart keys for push-button Toyotas, for most models, and cut the emergency blade inside to your door lock. If you've lost your only smart key, we come to the car. For a very new model, the key may need to be ordered first, and we'll tell you that on the phone.
My old Toyota key is worn down. Can you make a new one from it?+
Tell us it's worn when you call. Copying a worn key just copies the wear onto the new blank, so we need to know what we're working from before we cut. If the key is sticking in the ignition, or a piece has broken off inside it, broken key extraction is part of our automotive work too.
Do you make keys for Toyota trucks like the Tacoma and Tundra?+
Yes. Toyota pickups and SUVs are part of our Toyota work, for most models. If the truck is sitting at a job site with no working key, we come to it. Call (813) 832-4777 with the year, model, and VIN.
Do you handle Lexus keys too?+
Yes. Lexus is Toyota's luxury brand, and it's on our list of makes. Most recent Lexus models use a push-button smart key. Call with your year, model, and VIN and we'll confirm the key and give you a free quote.
How much does Toyota key replacement cost?+
Every car is different, so we don't post prices. What moves the number is the type of key (a chip key, a remote-head key, or a smart key), your model and year, and whether you're adding a spare or replacing your only key. Call for a free quote, and you'll have the price before any work begins.
