Chevy Key Replacement in Tampa
From a work Silverado to a family Equinox or Tahoe, we cut and program Chevrolet and GMC keys for most models. Walk in to our South Tampa shop Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm, or we'll come to the truck at your job site, driveway, or office lot.
Which Key Does Your Chevy Use?
Chevrolet has built a lot of different keys, and the one on your ring depends on the model, the year, and the trim. Many Chevys with a key you turn use a chip key or a key with the lock and unlock buttons built into the head, and some models use a flip key that folds into the fob. Many newer trucks and SUVs use a push-button smart key that stays in your pocket, with a mechanical blade tucked inside for the door. The VIN tells us exactly which one yours came with.
Chip Key
A cut blade with a transponder chip in the head. A plain copy may turn but won't start the engine until the chip is programmed. See transponder key programming.
Remote-Head or Flip Key
Blade, chip, and buttons in one piece. The blade is cut, and both the chip and the remote are programmed, so the new key locks, unlocks, and starts.
Smart Key
For push-button Chevys and GMCs. The truck senses the key nearby, and the blade inside is cut to your door. See smart key replacement.

A Silverado at the Job Site With No Key
When the only key to a work truck goes missing, the job stops with it. We come to the truck at the job site, the yard, or wherever it's parked. Our service vans carry key cutting machines and programming tools, so the new key is cut and programmed to the truck where it sits, usually in a single visit and with no tow.
Many newer GM keys use a laser-cut blade, where the cut runs down the middle of the blade instead of along the edge. We cut those too. Running more than one truck? See fleet and company vehicle keys for spares across a whole fleet.
GMC, Buick, and Cadillac Keys
Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac are all GM, and many of their keys are close cousins. A GMC Sierra often takes the same kind of key as a Chevy Silverado, and a Yukon the same as a Tahoe or Suburban. If you drive a GMC, Buick, or Cadillac, call with the year, model, and VIN, and we'll confirm the key and give you a free quote.
If your fob has a remote start button, mention it when you call. We match the fob to your vehicle and test every button your car supports before we're done.
What to Have Ready for a Chevy Key
- Your Chevy or GMC's year and model, whether it has push-button start or remote start, and the VIN from your registration, insurance card, or the base of the windshield on the driver's side.
- A photo ID plus the registration, title, or insurance documents for the vehicle. For a company truck, a document showing you're authorized for the vehicle.
- Every key and fob you still have, working or not.
Cost, and Skipping the Dealer
We don't post Chevy key prices, because every car is different. The type of key matters most, then the blade, your model and year, and whether you still have a working key. You get a free quote by phone and the price before any work begins.
A Chevrolet dealer can make a key too, typically with a service appointment and the vehicle on site. For most Chevys and GMCs, we make it without the appointment, at the shop or where the vehicle is parked. Rare or very new models may need the key ordered first. Many newer GM vehicles need a factory-authorized programming step, and we have the access for it on most models. If your exact vehicle turns out to be a dealer-only job, we say so on the phone before anyone drives out. Near the shop? Our South Tampa locksmith page covers the neighborhoods around it.

Can you make a key for my Chevy Silverado?+
Yes. Silverados are some of the most common vehicles we make keys for, for most model years, whether the truck uses a key with the buttons built into the head or a push-button smart key. If the truck is at a job site with no working key, we come to it. Call (813) 832-4777 with the year and the VIN.
Do you do GMC keys too?+
Yes. GMC and Chevrolet are both GM, and many GMC models share their keys with a Chevy twin: a Sierra with a Silverado, a Yukon with a Tahoe. Buick and Cadillac are GM as well. Call with the year, model, and VIN and we'll confirm the key.
My Chevy fob has a remote start button. Will the new one work?+
If your Chevy came with remote start, tell us when you call. We match the fob to your vehicle and program it so the buttons your car supports work, then test them with you before we're done.
Can you replace a Chevy key if I lost all of them?+
In most cases, yes. We come to the vehicle, cut a new key to the locks, and program it to the car where it sits, with no tow. Many newer GM models need a factory-authorized programming step, and we have the access for it on most of them. If you have a second key somewhere, find it before we arrive: on some cars, programming a new key clears any key that isn't present.
How much does Chevy key replacement cost?+
Every car is different, so we don't post prices. What moves the number is the type of key (a chip key, a flip or remote-head key, or a smart key), the blade, your model and year, and whether you're adding a spare or replacing your only key. Call for a free quote, and you'll have the price before any work begins.
