According to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, about half of Northdale's homes were built during the 1980s, roughly seven in ten are detached houses, and most are lived in by the people who own them. If a lock turns smoothly and the key slides in without a fight, rekeying is all it needs. If it binds, wobbles, or the finish has worn through, replacing it with a sturdier deadbolt makes more sense. We look at each door and tell you which is which before any work starts.
We just closed on a house in Northdale. What should we change first?+
The exterior locks: rekey them all to one new key, including the door from the garage. Then reset anything with a code, like a keypad deadbolt or garage door keypad, so earlier codes stop working. If the house came with a smart lock, it should be removed from the previous owner's app and set up fresh under yours.
