Lutz Locksmith
Lock Changes, Keypads & Fobs
From the gated streets of Cheval to older homes along US-41 and newer subdivisions up toward State Road 54, Lutz has every kind of door. We rekey, replace, and key-match them, and we make car keys right where the car is parked.
The locksmith Lutz trusts
Lutz still feels like its own place: an unincorporated community straddling the Hillsborough–Pasco line north of Tampa, with US-41 through the middle, Dale Mabry Highway along the west side, I-275 to the east, and a small downtown built around a replica of its old train depot. Its four ZIP codes, 33548, 33549, 33558, and 33559, reach north past the county line to State Road 54. We're The Locksmith Shop, a family business since 2009, with a walk-in shop at 4556 S Manhattan Ave in South Tampa, and Dale Mabry runs from near our shop all the way up to Lutz. Since Lutz sits at the north end of our coverage, visits here are booked ahead; call (813) 832-4777 and you'll get a real ETA, not a guess.
Cheval is one of Lutz's best-known addresses: a large gated golf community west of Dale Mabry, with big homes and a lot of exterior doors. Gated just means a little planning: sort out how the tech gets through the gate when you book, and the visit runs like any other. Inside, owners usually want the same three things: every exterior door on one key, a front entry that can't be copied at a kiosk, which means Mul-T-Lock or Medeco high-security cylinders, and a keypad on the door the family uses most.
Away from the gates, much of Lutz is older and more spread out than the newer subdivisions around it. There are homes on bigger lots along US-41 and the roads that branch off it, lake houses around Lake Hanna, and properties where the hardware went in one door at a time over several decades. Those houses often end up with four keys for four doors, a back door nobody can lock from outside, and a slider latch that quit years ago. We rekey what's sound, replace what isn't, and key the whole place alike, detached garage and workshop included where the hardware allows.
North of the county line, the Pasco side of Lutz toward State Road 54 has filled in with newer subdivisions, and their front doors often came with a builder keypad or smart lock that never got reset at closing. We put that lock back in your hands: a new master code, no leftover user codes or app logins, and a rekeyed backup cylinder so the previous owner's key no longer turns it. And because Lutz is commuter country, with I-275, Dale Mabry, and the Veterans and Suncoast all close by, car keys get hard use. We cut and program spare keys, remotes, and push-button keys for most makes, and if the last key is gone, we build the new one beside the car.
Lutz on both sides of the county line
Lutz's four ZIP codes divide it roughly like this. 33548 takes in Van Dyke Road, Lake Park on North Dale Mabry, and the downtown depot and library on Lutz-Lake Fern Road. 33549 includes the Lake Hanna area. Cheval is in 33558. And 33559 is the Pasco County side, up toward State Road 54. We cover all four, along with the Hillsborough neighborhoods just south.
The businesses along US-41 and Dale Mabry, from contractors' offices and yards to small shops, run into the same lock problems over and over: a key that left with an employee, a yard gate padlock with too many copies floating around, and a back door everyone shares. We change or rekey the locks, key the padlocks so only the people you choose can open them, and fit standalone keypad locks where codes make more sense than keys. For more doors or more people, see master key systems or commercial access control.
At home, the simplest upgrade we install is keypad entry on the door your family uses every day, with a key cylinder that still works off your house key. See keyless entry and access control for the models.
For car keys, a spare car key cut while your current key still starts the car is the easiest insurance. Button remotes and smart fobs fall under key fob replacement, chip keys under transponder key programming, and if no key is left, lost car key replacement walks through how a new one gets made.
South of Lutz, the gated estates on our Avila locksmith page and the lake neighborhoods on our Carrollwood locksmith page share the Dale Mabry route, New Tampa is just to the east, and to the west, Odessa and Keystone have their own page.

Call (813) 832-4777Lutz locksmith FAQ
Do you cover the Pasco County side of Lutz?+
Yes. We cover all four Lutz ZIP codes, including 33559 on the Pasco side up toward State Road 54, plus Cheval and the rest of the Hillsborough side. One call to (813) 832-4777 gets you a free quote and a live ETA.
How do you get into Cheval for a job?+
We set it up with you when you book. You can share a visitor code, register us with the community as an expected visitor, or meet our tech at the front gate. We never follow another car through a gate or go around the community's security.
Can you put every door on my house on one key?+
Usually. If the locks share a compatible keyway, we rekey them to one key. If one or two are a different brand or too worn to rekey, we replace those and key the new ones to match. Detached garages and workshops can join the same key when the hardware allows.
We bought a home with a builder keypad. Is it safe to keep?+
Often, once it's reset. The previous owner, the builder, or a contractor may still know a code or have access through the app. We set a new master code, delete every old user and app connection, and rekey the keyed override. If the keypad itself is a bare-bones model, we'll tell you and show you better options.
Where are you coming from, and when can you get here?+
Our shop is in South Tampa, and Lutz is at the north end of our coverage, so we book visits ahead rather than promise a drive time. Call and we'll give you a live ETA and a free quote before anyone heads out.
What are your hours?+
We work Monday through Saturday from 8am until 8pm and take Sundays off. Locked out after 8pm or on a Sunday? Call at 8am on the next day we're open, which is Monday if it's the weekend, and the job goes on that day's schedule.
What does a Lutz job cost?+
No two Lutz jobs are alike, so each one gets its own free quote, and you have it before any work starts. The number moves with the count of locks, whether they're rekeyed or replaced, any keypad or high-security hardware, and for a car, what kind of key it takes.
