Palma Ceia Locksmith
High-Security Locks & Rekeys
Brick streets, Havana street names, and houses that run from the neighborhood's originals to brand-new custom builds. We rekey, upgrade, and key-match Palma Ceia's doors from our walk-in shop a couple of miles south on S Manhattan Ave.
The locksmith Palma Ceia trusts
Palma Ceia is the heart of 33629, one of Tampa's most sought-after ZIP codes: the streets between Neptune Street and Bay to Bay Boulevard, about half a mile from the water on Bayshore. Its developers borrowed street names from old Havana, many of those streets are still brick, and the houses along them range from the neighborhood's original Spanish-style homes and bungalows to large new builds that have replaced older houses lot by lot. That range is why lock work here changes so much from one door to the next. The Locksmith Shop has been family-owned since 2009, and our walk-in shop sits a couple of miles south at 4556 S Manhattan Ave. Call (813) 832-4777 for a free quote and a live ETA, or stop in Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm.
Older Palma Ceia homes often carry hardware that has been through several owners: mortise locks set into heavy wood doors, a deadbolt added in one decade and a keypad in another, and French doors that have settled in their frames. When the lock body is sound, we rekey it in place and leave the door alone, because an original door is far harder to replace than a set of pins. The new custom builds bring a different problem. Oversized pivot and iron-and-glass entries, multipoint patio doors, and designer handlesets often hide an ordinary cylinder behind an expensive finish. On either kind of house we can bring the main entry up to high-security standards: we're an authorized Mul-T-Lock and Schlage dealer and we also work Medeco, so the cylinder on your front door can be one a hardware-store kiosk can't copy.
Plenty of Palma Ceia households run on more people than the family: housekeepers, nannies, pool and lawn crews, dog walkers, and the contractors who always seem to be renovating somewhere on the block. Every brass key you hand out is one you can't fully take back, so we set homes up two ways. Keypad and smart deadbolts give each person a code of their own, and deleting it when the job ends doesn't touch anyone else's. For the doors that stay on keys, a restricted keyway means copies are made only through an authorized dealer and only for the people you approve. And when a key has already walked off, we rekey every exterior lock to a new one in a single visit.
Then there are the cars. Between teenagers driving to Plant High, two- and three-car garages, and push-to-start fobs that disappear at the worst moment, car keys matter in Palma Ceia as much as house keys. We cut and program transponder keys, remotes, and smart keys for most makes: at the shop when the car still starts, and in your driveway when every key is gone. One exception is worth knowing up front. We handle Mercedes-Benz keys for 2014 and older models, but new keys for 2015 and newer Mercedes come only from the dealer, and we'll say so on the phone before anyone heads your way.
From the Design District to Culbreath Isles
Palma Ceia's main street is really an intersection: the Design District around MacDill Avenue and Bay to Bay Boulevard, where boutiques and cafés sit a block from front porches, with more small offices along MacDill and Henderson Boulevard. Shops with part-time staff tend to end up with keys nobody can account for. A standalone keypad lever on the back door gives each employee a code you delete when they leave. Suites with several doors can move to fobs or key cards, covered on our commercial access control page, and owners who want one key for themselves and limited keys for staff should read about master key systems.
West of Dale Mabry, the streets run out toward Old Tampa Bay, and in Culbreath Isles and Sunset Park the houses sit right on the water. That's a different lock environment: salt air pits finishes and stiffens cylinders, pool-enclosure doors and slider latches give out first, and dock padlocks seize. We replace corroded hardware with finishes better suited to the coast, key the pool gate and side doors to the house where the hardware allows, and adjust lanai doors so they latch without a shove.
Palma Ceia homes change hands often, and an older house frequently gets a major renovation after the sale. Rekey when you close, because there's no way to know how many keys the sellers, their cleaners, and every agent and contractor passed around. If a remodel is coming, plan to rekey twice: once when you get the keys, and again when the crews pack up. A keypad helps in between, since each crew can get a code that stops working the day the job ends.
For the car side, lost car key replacement explains how we make a key when none is left, key fob replacement covers remotes and push-to-start fobs, transponder key programming covers chip keys without buttons, and spare car keys covers the simplest fix of all: a second key made while one still works.
The neighborhood around our shop has its own Ballast Point locksmith page, the historic streets to the north are on our Hyde Park locksmith page, and the rest of the peninsula is on our South Tampa locksmith page.
What helps us quote a Palma Ceia job
A good phone quote starts with a few details. Count the exterior doors, including the door from the garage, any French or patio doors with a keyed lock, and the pool gate if it locks, and tell us whether you want everything on one key. A photo of the front door's edge, where the bolt comes out, tells us more than any description. If household help will get keypad codes, tell us roughly how many people need access. For car keys, have the year, make, model, and VIN ready. The quote is free, and you'll have it before any work begins.
What we fix most in Palma Ceia
Every neighborhood has its own lock profile. Here's what keeps our techs busiest in Palma Ceia.
Sound locks on Palma Ceia's older homes get new pins and new keys, so the door keeps its hardware and you control every copy.
Mul-T-Lock and Medeco cylinders for the main door, with keys an authorized dealer duplicates only for people you approve.
Keypad and smart deadbolts with a separate code for each housekeeper, nanny, or crew, deleted the day the work ends.
Every exterior lock set to one new key when you buy, and again when the renovation crews finish.
Corroded locksets, slider latches, and dock padlocks replaced near Old Tampa Bay in Culbreath Isles and Sunset Park.
Spare keys and fobs made at the shop, or a new key made in your driveway when every key is gone, for most makes.

Call (813) 832-4777Palma Ceia locksmith FAQ
How far is your shop from Palma Ceia?+
A couple of miles. The Locksmith Shop is at 4556 S Manhattan Ave in 33611, south of Palma Ceia near Gandy Boulevard. You can stop in for spare car keys, fob repairs, or a look at smart locks, Monday through Saturday from 8am to 8pm. For work at your house, call (813) 832-4777 and we'll give you a free quote and a live ETA before anyone heads out.
Can you rekey an older Palma Ceia home without replacing the locks?+
Usually. If the lock body is in good shape, we rekey the cylinder with new pins and cut new keys, and the original hardware stays on the door. If a lock is worn out, cracked, or no longer latches reliably, we'll tell you and quote a replacement instead of rekeying something that will fail again.
Our nanny and housekeeper both have keys. What should we do?+
Move them to codes. A keypad or smart deadbolt lets each person have a separate code, and you can delete one without changing anyone else's. Then rekey the doors that still use keys, so the old copies stop working. With a Wi-Fi model, the app also shows which code opened the door and when.
Can you make a key for my car if I've lost every key?+
For most makes, yes. We come to the car, look up the key code by VIN once you show the car is yours, cut the blade, and program the key where the car is parked. Mercedes-Benz is the exception for 2015 and newer models: those keys come only from the dealer. If your car is one of the dealer-only cases, we'll tell you on the call.
What does a locksmith visit in Palma Ceia cost?+
It depends on the job: how many doors, rekey versus new hardware, standard versus high-security cylinders, and for cars, the key type. We don't post prices because every house and car is different. Call (813) 832-4777 and we'll give you a free quote before any work begins.
Are you open on Sundays?+
No. We're open Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and closed on Sundays. If you're locked out on a Sunday or after 8pm, call us when the shop opens at 8am, and we'll quote it and get you on the schedule.
