Ballast Point Locksmith
Walk-In Shop Nearby
Ballast Point shares our 33611 ZIP code, and our walk-in shop is a short drive west, near Gandy Boulevard. Bring your keys, fobs, and lock questions to the counter, or have us come to the house under the oaks.
The locksmith Ballast Point trusts
Ballast Point is the bayfront corner of South Tampa between Gandy Boulevard and MacDill Air Force Base, with Hillsborough Bay along one side and S MacDill Avenue along the other. It's also the closest thing we have to a home neighborhood. The Locksmith Shop's walk-in storefront is at 4556 S Manhattan Ave, Suite K, in the same ZIP code, a short drive west of Ballast Point Park. That changes how a lot of Ballast Point jobs work: when the car still starts or the question can be answered with a photo, you can bring it to us Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and when it can't, we come to you. We're a family business that has been working on Tampa's locks and keys since 2009, bonded and insured, and a real locksmith answers (813) 832-4777.
A good share of what Ballast Point needs never requires a house call. Drive the car over when you want a spare key or a new fob programmed, since programming is done with the car on hand. Bring a fob with a cracked case or buttons that stopped working, and we'll test it, replace the battery, move the board into a new shell, or pair it to the car again. Laser-cut and high-security car keys can be copied at the shop, and if you're weighing a keypad or smart lock, a photo of your door's edge and the lock on it now is enough for us to show you what fits. Call ahead for unusual keys, and we'll confirm the blank is in stock before you make the trip.
Ballast Point's streets sit under mature oaks hung with Spanish moss, and the houses range from mid-century ranches to new two-story rebuilds, with homes right on the bay. Being this close to the water is the defining factor for locks here. Salt air works its way into cylinders and stiffens them, slider and screen-door latches corrode, and after a storm surge or a flooded garage, a lock that sat in salt water usually needs cleaning, rekeying, or replacing before it seizes for good. We'd rather service a stiff lock now than drill a seized one later, and when we replace hardware this close to the bay, we choose finishes built for coastal exposure.
MacDill Air Force Base sits at the bottom of the peninsula, and military families moving in and out are part of life in Ballast Point and Interbay. If you've just moved into an off-base home, rekey before you unpack: previous owners, renters, property managers, and contractors may all still hold keys. We rekey every exterior lock to one new key, clear out keypad codes and smart lock accounts the last occupant left behind, and offer a military discount. Ask about it when you call or stop in.
Around Ballast Point Park and the 33611 bayfront
Our 33611 calls cover more than Ballast Point itself. North of Gandy Boulevard, Bayshore Beautiful runs up toward Bay to Bay, and Bayshore Boulevard's long sidewalk ends at Gandy. West of S MacDill Avenue, Interbay fills in toward the shop. To the south, the neighborhood runs past Gadsden Park, where the South Tampa Greenway connects, toward the base. Whichever direction you're coming from, it's the same short list of roads between your door and ours: Gandy, Interbay Boulevard, MacDill Avenue, and Manhattan.
If you're coming to us, the shop is on S Manhattan Ave near Gandy Boulevard, in Suite K. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and we're closed Sundays. If we're coming to you, tell us the street and which door or car, and we'll quote the job on the phone before we head out.
The shop being close matters most for cars. If yours still starts, drive it over for a spare car key or a new key fob, and bring a cracked fob in for car key shell repair. Chip keys without buttons fall under transponder key programming. If every key is gone, the car can't come to us, so we go to it: that's lost car key replacement.
Thinking about a keypad? The options we install are on our keyless entry and access control page. For the rest of the peninsula, from Hyde Park and SoHo down to Port Tampa, see our South Tampa locksmith page, and for the brick streets just north, our Palma Ceia locksmith page.
Walking in? What to bring
For a spare car key or a new fob, bring the car, every key and fob you have for it, your photo ID, and the registration or title. On some cars, programming a new key erases any key that isn't present, so a spare left at home can stop working. For a fob repair, bring the fob, and the car too if it may need pairing again.
For keypad or smart lock advice, bring photos: the outside of the door, the edge where the bolt sits, and the inside of the lock. If your home has an HOA or you rent, check the rules on door hardware before you buy anything. And if you're not sure whether something is a counter job or a house call, call (813) 832-4777 first and we'll tell you.

Call (813) 832-4777Ballast Point locksmith FAQ
Is your shop actually in Ballast Point?+
It's in the same 33611 ZIP code, at 4556 S Manhattan Ave, Suite K, near Gandy Boulevard, a short drive west of Ballast Point Park. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm. For work at your home, call (813) 832-4777 for a free quote and a live ETA.
What can I get done at the shop, and what needs a house call?+
Spare car keys and fobs when the car can be driven over, laser-cut key copies, fob shell and battery work, and keypad or smart lock advice all happen at the shop. Lockouts, rekeying the locks on your doors, new hardware, smart lock installs, and car keys when no working key is left are done on-site.
Do you offer a military discount?+
Yes. Ask about it when you call (813) 832-4777 or when you stop in at the shop.
My locks sat in storm water. Do they all need replacing?+
Not always. A cylinder that was under salt water should be cleaned and checked soon, because the corrosion keeps working after the water leaves. Many can be serviced and rekeyed; some are too far gone and need replacing. We check each one and tell you which is which before you approve any work.
Can I drive in for a spare car key?+
Yes, as long as one key still works. Bring the car, every key you have for it, and your ID, and we'll cut the new key and program it to the car at the shop. If the key type is unusual, call ahead so we can confirm the blank is in stock.
When is the shop open?+
Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm. We're closed on Sundays. If you get locked out on a Sunday or after 8pm, call us at 8am when we open. If a child or a pet is locked in a car, call 911 first.
How do you price a job?+
We quote before any work begins, and quotes are free. The price depends on what you need, whether that's a rekey, new hardware, a fob repair, or a car key, and for cars, the make, model, and key type. Call (813) 832-4777 or ask at the counter.
