Odessa Locksmith
Estate, Gate & Barn Locks
Odessa and Keystone, in Tampa Bay's northwest corner: lakefront estates, acreage and horse properties, and newer neighborhoods off Gunn Highway and State Road 54. We key houses, gates, and outbuildings to fit how the property actually works, and make car keys at your driveway.
The locksmith Odessa trusts
Odessa sits in Tampa Bay's northwest corner, where Hillsborough meets Pasco and Pinellas, and ZIP 33556 covers both sides of the county line. The community was named in the 1880s by Peter Demens, the Russian immigrant also credited with naming St. Petersburg, and for most of its history it was ranch land, citrus groves, and lakes. Keystone, on the Hillsborough side, still has much of that character: lake homes, acreage, and horse properties, with newer neighborhoods filling in along Gunn Highway and State Road 54. We've been a family-owned locksmith since 2009, working from a walk-in storefront in South Tampa. Odessa is a long drive from there, so visits are set up by appointment, and the phone quote at (813) 832-4777 comes with a live ETA.
Properties out here are rarely one door and one key. An Odessa or Keystone estate might have a main house, a guest cottage, a detached garage or workshop, a barn with a tack room, a pump house, and a gate or two, each with its own lock and often its own key. We put the whole property on a plan. The owner's key opens everything; a caretaker's or farm helper's key opens the barn and the gates but not the house; and the house cleaner's key opens only the house. It's the same logic a business uses in a master key system, scaled to a homestead, and it turns a drawer of mystery keys into one ring you understand.
Lake Keystone and the smaller lakes around it put a lot of Odessa homes on the water, and waterfront hardware lives a hard life. Dock and boathouse padlocks seize, lake-facing sliders and French doors swell in the humidity until they won't latch, and screen-enclosure doors work loose. We service what can be saved, replace what can't with hardware made for outdoor exposure, and fold the boathouse and dock gate into the property's key plan, so the water doesn't need a key ring of its own.
Acreage also raises security questions that a subdivision never does. A long driveway gate, a tack room full of saddles, and a workshop full of tools are all worth locking properly, and they're often the last places anyone thinks about. We fit solid deadbolts and heavy padlocks where the old ones have rusted or gone missing, rekey the ones worth keeping, and keep all of it on the plan. For the vehicles, from the family SUV to the farm truck, we cut and program spares, remote fobs, and push-button smart keys on most makes, and when the last key goes missing somewhere on the property, we drive out to the vehicle and make a new one there.
Keystone, Gunn Highway, and the county line
Odessa and Keystone hang off a few main roads. Gunn Highway runs north through Keystone into the Pasco side of Odessa, State Road 54 crosses the top of the area, Tarpon Springs Road heads west toward Pinellas, and Lutz-Lake Fern Road runs east past Steinbrenner High School toward Cheval and Lutz. Coming from our South Tampa shop, the Veterans Expressway is the straight run north.
Odessa's newer subdivisions off Gunn Highway and State Road 54 have the usual suburban mix: a front door, a door from the garage, and a slider, often each on a different key. We key them alike, replace worn builder hardware, and add keypad or smart deadbolts, and our keyless entry and access control page lists what we install. For larger properties with several buildings, the approach on our master key systems page applies, scaled down to one family.
Out here the vehicle is how everything gets done, and keys wear out. Get a spare car key made before the only one wears out, use key fob replacement for remote fobs and push-button smart keys and transponder key programming for chip keys, and if every key is gone, see lost car key replacement for how we make one at the vehicle. We also make keys for motorcycles and e-bikes; call with the make and model.
Heading south, Westchase's villages and Carrollwood's lake streets are on the same northwest route, with pages of their own: Westchase locksmith and Carrollwood locksmith. To the east, our Lutz locksmith page covers Cheval and the US-41 corridor.
Horse properties: barns, tack rooms, and gates
On a horse property, the barn is usually the least secure building and often holds the easiest things to carry off: saddles, bridles, and tools. The tack room deserves a real lock, either a solid deadbolt on a solid door or a heavy padlock on a strong hasp, keyed to the property plan. Feed rooms and equipment sheds can share the barn key, while the house stays on its own.
Gates are the other half. A padlock on a driveway or pasture gate is only as good as its hasp and chain, and Florida humidity rusts a cheap padlock in a few seasons. We replace rusted padlocks with weather-resistant models, key them alike so one key works every gate, and cut a gates-only key for anyone who needs one and nothing more.
What we fix most in Odessa
Every neighborhood has its own lock profile. Here's what keeps our techs busiest in Odessa.
House, cottage, workshop, barn, and gates on one plan: the owner's key opens all of it, and helpers' keys open only their part.
Deadbolts and heavy padlocks on tack and feed rooms, keyed to the property so the barn isn't the weak spot.
Rusted gate padlocks replaced with weather-resistant ones, keyed alike, with a gates-only key for anyone who needs it.
Swollen sliders adjusted, screen-enclosure locks replaced, and dock and boathouse padlocks keyed into your plan.
Every exterior lock rekeyed after a purchase or a change in staff, with high-security cylinders on the main entry if you want them.
Spare keys, fobs, and smart keys for most makes, plus motorcycle and e-bike keys. Lost every key? We come to the vehicle.

Call (813) 832-4777Odessa locksmith FAQ
Do you cover both the Hillsborough and Pasco sides of Odessa?+
Yes. ZIP 33556 crosses the county line, and we cover the Hillsborough and Pasco halves, along with Keystone. Odessa is at the far northwest edge of where we work, so visits are booked by appointment, and you'll get a live ETA on the phone.
Can one key open my house, barn, and gates?+
Often, yes, when the locks and padlocks are on compatible hardware; where they aren't, we replace the odd ones out. We can also set it up so your key opens everything while a helper's key opens only the barn and gates. Tell us how many locks you have and who needs to reach what, and we'll quote the plan.
My dock padlock is rusted shut. Can you deal with it?+
Yes. We get seized and rusted padlocks off and replace them with weather-resistant models that can be keyed to the rest of the property. When you call, tell us where the lock is, whether that's a dock, a boathouse, or a gate.
Can you make a key for my truck if I've lost the only one?+
Usually, on most makes. We drive out to the truck, pull its key code by VIN after you show it's yours, then cut and program the new key on the spot. If your vehicle is dealer-only, as 2015 and newer Mercedes-Benz models are, we'll say so before anyone drives out.
Do you install high-security locks on Keystone estates?+
Yes: Mul-T-Lock and Schlage, as an authorized dealer for both, and Medeco. A high-security cylinder on the main entry means its keys can't be duplicated at a hardware store, while the outbuildings can stay on standard hardware keyed to their own plan.
Are you open on weekends?+
Saturdays, yes. Our week runs Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and Sunday is our day off, so for a problem that turns up on a Sunday, call us Monday at 8am and we'll get it on the schedule.
What will an Odessa job cost?+
Every property is different, so each job gets a free quote up front, before anything is touched. A whole-property key plan is priced from the list of locks and who needs access; a car key from the year, make, model, and key type. Call (813) 832-4777.
