FishHawk Locksmith
Rekeys, Smart Locks & Car Keys
FishHawk Ranch and Lithia, south of the Alafia River: homes on their second or third owner, busy school schedules, and two or three cars in a lot of driveways. We rekey and upgrade the houses and make the car keys, on a scheduled visit, with a live ETA when you call.
The locksmith FishHawk trusts
FishHawk is the master-planned side of Lithia: FishHawk Ranch's villages, Park Square, the Lake House, and the trails that tie them together, with the Alafia River along the north edge separating it from Valrico and Bloomingdale. Building here took off in the 1990s, so plenty of the original builder hardware has reached the age where it starts to complain, and plenty of households have outgrown the two keys that came with the house. Our family has run The Locksmith Shop since 2009, out of a walk-in shop in South Tampa, across the county from FishHawk. That's why we schedule FishHawk and Lithia visits ahead of time and give you a live ETA when you call (813) 832-4777.
Many FishHawk homes are on their second or third owner by now, and a house that has changed hands comes with keys nobody can account for: the builder's, the first family's, their cleaners' and pet sitters', and whatever went into the listing agent's lockbox. The first thing we recommend after closing is a rekey, with every exterior lock, including the door from the garage and any patio door with a keyed lock, set to one new key. If the house came with a keypad or smart lock, we wipe its programming back to your own master code and clear out the previous owners' user codes and app accounts, so none of them work once you've moved in.
Then there's the original builder hardware. It was picked for price, and years of humidity, settling, and slammed doors show: bolts that have to be forced, levers that droop, and a front door, garage entry door, and slider that each take a different key. We replace worn hardware with Schlage or Mul-T-Lock, fix the door alignment behind the problem, and key the house alike. For families whose kids come home from Newsome, Randall, or Barrington before the parents do, a keypad deadbolt on the door they actually use, usually the one from the garage, means no key to lose and a separate code for each kid, the sitter, and the neighbor who feeds the dog.
With teen drivers and two or three cars in many driveways, car keys matter here as much as house keys. The easiest fix is a spare made before you need it: bring the car to our shop when you're in Tampa, or we can cut and program it during a house visit. When every key is gone, the car can't come to us, so we go to it. Once you show the car is yours, we look up the key code by VIN, then cut and program the new key in your driveway or wherever the car is parked. That covers most makes from the mid-2000s on; Mercedes-Benz from 2015 forward is dealer-only, and we'll say so on the phone.
FishHawk, Lithia, and the roads in between
FishHawk Boulevard runs through the middle of the community, Boyette Road comes in from Riverview to the west, and Lithia Pinecrest Road heads north across the Alafia toward Valrico and Brandon. Most FishHawk and Lithia addresses share ZIP 33547. Across the river, the Bloomingdale side of Valrico is 33596, which our Valrico locksmith page covers in more detail.
Outside the master-planned villages, parts of Lithia are still rural, out toward Lithia Springs Park and Alafia River State Park: bigger lots, long driveways, and detached shops and sheds. A house, a workshop, and a shed can often run on one key when the hardware allows it, and a renter or helper can get a key that opens only the buildings they need.
Because FishHawk is a long drive from our shop, put your whole list together when you book: the rekey, the keypad for the garage entry door, the spare fob for the teenager's car. One visit that handles everything beats three separate trips. The keypad and smart lock options we install are on our keyless entry and access control page.
For car keys, start with spare car keys, key fob replacement, or transponder key programming, and read lost car key replacement if there's no key left at all. The neighbors to the west and north are covered on our Riverview locksmith and Brandon locksmith pages.
What we fix most in FishHawk
Every neighborhood has its own lock profile. Here's what keeps our techs busiest in FishHawk.
Every exterior lock, the garage entry door included, set to one new key, with the last owner's keypad and app users cleared.
Drooping levers and hard-to-throw bolts swapped for Schlage or Mul-T-Lock, with the door realigned and the house keyed alike.
A keypad deadbolt on the door the family really uses, with a separate code for each kid, sitter, and helper.
A second key or fob for the teenager's car, made at the shop or during a house visit, for most makes.
No key left? We cut a new one from the code we look up by VIN and program it at the car, with no tow to a dealer.
Detached shops, sheds, and their padlocks keyed to the house where the hardware allows, with limited keys for helpers.

Call (813) 832-4777FishHawk locksmith FAQ
Do you really come out to FishHawk from South Tampa?+
Yes. Hillsborough is our home county, and FishHawk and Lithia are part of it. Because it's a long drive from the shop, we schedule FishHawk visits ahead of time and give you a live ETA when you call (813) 832-4777. We don't promise drive times we can't keep.
Should I rekey or replace the locks on a FishHawk resale home?+
If the locks work smoothly, rekey them; it's the simplest way to make every old key useless. If a lock is worn, sticking, or a builder model that never worked well, replace it, and we'll key the new one to match the rest of the house.
Can I get a spare fob for my teenager's car without going to the dealer?+
For most makes, yes. Bring the car and every key you have for it to our shop, or we'll make the fob during a house visit. Some cars erase any key that isn't present while a new one is programmed, so have all of them on hand.
What's the best lock for the door between the garage and the house?+
For most families, a keypad deadbolt. It's the door people actually use, so a code beats a key, and each person can have their own. Keep its key cylinder on your house key as a backup, and after a move-in, change the garage door opener's own keypad code too.
How is a FishHawk job priced?+
We quote it before any work begins, and the quote is free. The total depends on how many locks, rekeying versus new hardware, which keypad or smart lock you choose, and for cars, the key type and model. Give us your whole list in one call and we'll quote the visit as a whole.
What days can you come out?+
Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm. We're closed on Sundays. Call during those hours and we'll book a time that fits your family's schedule.
Do your techs speak Spanish?+
Yes. Our techs work in English or Spanish, so just say which you prefer when you call.
